Music Through The Decades

Famous singers - COUNTING THE BEAT

 Micheal Jackson, Micheal Jackson is a famous singer throughout the 80s and 90s, he was known for his famous dance move, the moon walk. His music genre was indie and pop music. A couple famous songs that he made were Billie Jean and Smooth Criminal, these songs were really well none throughout his time in the singing business. He came famous from his family band the Jackson 5, after that he went on a solo career and made a hit single to make him became who he is today. One of the problems he faced was a skin pigmentation, and later on in 1995 he collapsed from dehydration and low blood pressure.

Strange Instruments - COUNTING THE BEAT

 This week we have learned about strange instruments, instruments that no one has every seen or played before. We had to make a drawing of a unusual and weird instrument on a peice of paper, my instrument is a ukulele cross between a guitar, it has 10 strings because a guitar has 6 strings and a ukulele has 4 strings, so that's what makes is unique to other weird instruments.

My instrument belongs to the string family because it has 10 strings on the neck and it has 10 tuning pegs for the strings. It is made from normal wood like a guitar. You play it normaly like a guitar or a ukulele you can swith through the strings because there is 10 strings, the first 4 strings are the ukulele setting, an the last 6 strings are the guitars setting, and you can play all the strings to make a new unique song and sound. The instrument can be played for any type of music because it has lots of vairity for the sound because it has 10 strings therefore it could be used for any type of music.

Percussion - Stomp COUNTING THE BEAT

This week we have been learning about percussion music,

What is percussion? Percussion is striking one solid object with or against another with some degree of force.

And there is also a percussion instrument , whats a percussion instrument? 

A percussion instrument is a musical instrument that is sounded by being struck or scraped by a beater including attached or enclosed beaters or rattles struck, scraped or rubbed by hand or struck against another similar instrument.

And there is also body percussion as well, what the heck is body percussion you say?Body percussion is the art of striking the body to produce various types of sounds

We watched a STOMP video and there were people using percussion instrument to make a sound and after that we had to pick a song to make a beat to, our song was Another One Bites The Dust. Then we had to make a beat with a group with random instruments to make a beat to the song, my group had Logan, and Beniah in it.

The instruments we used in the group was a cardboard tube that I hit with a jandle to make an echo sound, Logan had a type of maraca thing that made a shaking sound, and Beniah used cones to hit the ground to also make a loud echo noise.

COUNTING THE BEAT - Violin

This week we have been learning about, violin's. Violins are a stringed instrument, that is played with a bow. The violin is a very very classical instrument that has been around for years, and in this blog post I will be talking about it and going into detail...

There are 5 types of violins, 

1. The first type of violin is, the violin the violin is the most basic violin you can get but there are meany different sizes for different people.

2. The viola is a bit bigger than the violin, no to much difference between the violin.

3. The cello the cello is a much more bigger violin, and bigger for people with bigger arms and hands. All of the violins have two f holes which are like sound holes but shaped like an f.

4.The double bass, the double bass is the biggest and lowest toned violin, it is much more bigger in size than all the other violins, this violin is usually played in lower beats and for people with bigger hand and arm sizes.

5. Electric violins, electric violins are well normal violins but they are electric and needs and amp, a bit like an electric guitar, it also has no sound holes

3 glossary words...

The strings, strings are very important on the violin because that where you strum  your bow against, it is also located on the neck of the violin...

The bow, the bow is a long piece of wood with strings at the bottom of it and to make it play against the strings you need this thing called rosin, which make it play well against the strings on the violin...

The f holes, the f holes are important to echo the sound out of the violin, the sound goes into the f holes and echos - vibrates out of the violin...

ORCHESTRA - Counting the beat

 This week we have been learning about orchestra's and different other instruments that are played in an orchestra, an orchestra is a group of instruments that typically play classical music, we also got to look at the type of instrument in person as well, which was really cool. I will show you some pictures and what the instruments are about...

The woodwind, Woodwinds  are a type of musical instrument that make their own sound when someone blows air into or across the mouthpiece. They get their name from the fact that most of them were once made of wood. Today many are made of other materials such as metal or plastic

The brass instrument is like a trumpet but it has a vibration noise to it, then the air goes in a tube that blows the air out of it to make the humming vibration noise,and you also have to use you're lips as well.  

A string instrument is a musical instrument that makes sound by vibrating the strings on it. The strings are pulled to make sounds. Each string has a different noise that it plays. To make a sound you have to obtain by adjusting the strength on the string. A string instrument plays soft notes.

Counting the beat - Ukuleles

This week in counting the beat, we have been learning about ukuleles and recorders, ukuleles are a type of stringed instrument, it more looks like a mini guitar.

What I know about ukuleles...

• Stringed instrument

• 4 strings - nylon

• Instrumental art piece

• Related to the guitar family

• Came from Hawaii

• It has a sound hole

• There are lots of different types and sizes

There are 4 types of ukuleles the saprano, the concert, tenor, and the baritone each of these ukuleles have a diffrent type of sound and tone, the saprano is your usual and common type of ukulele to be found and is the smallest, the concert, the concert is a bigget type of ukulele sort of like a saprano, but the sound doesnt change much between the saprano and the concert, the tenor is a much larger version of all the other ukuleles and sounds deeper than the other two.

The baritone, the baritone is the largest ukulele you can find it is a much deeper and bigger ukulel than the other one, much people will mistake it for a guitar or a small bass guitar for its 4 strings.

Quick facts about the ukulele: 

1. The ukulele has 4 strings 

2. The ukulele strings are made out of nylon, nylon is much more kinder to your fingers other than metal strings like on guitars.

Here are 3 glossary terms of the ukulele...

The head, the head is the top part of the ukulele which is wear the tuning heads are and where the strings connect at.

The neck, the neck is the part that goes up - towards the head of the guitar, the neck is allso where all the strings are aswell

The strings, the strings are on the neck and the strings are made out of nylon which is kinder to your finger tips.

Guitars

 In counting the beat we are learning about music and other types of music. In this post I am doing it about guitars, yesterday we saw all different types of guitars and guitars that play different music to other guitars.

We saw an acoustic guitar, a spanish guitar that has nylon strings that are more kinder to your finger tips, and then we saw an electric guitar the electric guitar is powered by a amp, an amp is a speaker that you connect up to the guitar to amplifie the guitar to make sound louder but if you use an electric guitar without an amp it will be really quiet because there is no sound hole to make it echo. 

3 glossary terms:

1.Headstock is at the top where the tuning pegs are.

2.Fret, the is the lines down the neck to help the guitar player.

3.Neck, the long part where the strings go down.
